Sustainable Materials
Materials play an important role in shaping a product's environmental impact. We help customers explore recycled, biobased, and responsibly sourced options while considering product quality, design, durability, compliance, manufacturing feasibility, and target cost.
Recycled Materials
Recycled materials give existing resources a second life and help reduce reliance on virgin raw materials. They can be used across paper products, plastic components, fabrics, metal parts, and packaging, depending on product structure, performance requirements, and customer expectations.
For each project, we help evaluate material availability, recycled content, appearance, durability, compliance requirements, and production feasibility to find a suitable balance between sustainability and product quality.
Available options include recycled paper and board, recycled PET and other recycled plastics, recycled polyester fabrics, recycled metals, and recycled-content packaging materials.
Biobased Materials
Biobased materials are made partly or fully from renewable biological resources, offering alternatives to conventional fossil-based materials where suitable. These materials can support more responsible product development while maintaining the necessary function, appearance, and manufacturability of the final product.
Because different biobased materials vary in strength, flexibility, heat resistance, texture, and processing requirements, we review their suitability based on product use, design expectations, compliance needs, and target cost. Representative options include PLA bioplastics, bamboo fiber, wheat-straw composites, plant-based plastics, and other natural or plant-derived material blends.
Sustainable Resources
Responsibly sourced and rapidly renewable materials support a more considered use of natural resources. These materials are selected not only for their environmental value, but also for their compatibility with product design, durability, safety, and market positioning.
Depending on the product category and customer requirements, we help explore materials with recognized sourcing standards, renewable characteristics, or lower-impact material profiles. These options can be applied to notebooks, bags, packaging, accessories, and selected product components.
Available options include FSC-certified or responsibly sourced paper, cork, bamboo, organic or responsibly sourced cotton, natural-fiber materials, and other renewable material solutions.
Responsible Packaging
Responsible packaging should do more than protect the product. It should also communicate the brand, support efficient transportation, and avoid unnecessary material use wherever practical. We work with customers to review packaging dimensions, structures, components, and material choices, helping simplify packaging, reduce weight, and consider responsibly sourced paper or recyclable material options according to project needs.
Each packaging solution is developed around the product, sales channel, distribution method, and protection requirements. This helps balance material reduction with reliable performance during packing, handling, storage, and transportation.
For projects intended for the EU market, we also pay attention to the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Packaging review include material reduction, recyclability, labeling readiness, and responsible material choices to better support applicable market requirements.
Certifications
Relevant certification and program marks may be applied according to product materials, project requirements, verified documentation, and the usage rules of each certification or program. We support customers in reviewing suitable options such as FSC, GRS, RCS, OEKO-TEX, U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol, Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), and USDA BioPreferred® Program where applicable.
For EU-market projects involving paper, wood-based, or other EUDR-relevant materials, we can also support the review of supplier documents, material sources, and traceability information where applicable. Logo use, certification claims, and related documentation are reviewed based on certification scope, supplier qualification, transaction documents, and customer requirements.
Product Life Cycle Assessment
Syloon uses Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to measure the environmental footprint of representative products across four categories and sixteen product types. Our cradle-to-gate assessment covers raw material extraction and processing, component manufacturing, product assembly and finishing, and packaging before products leave the factory.
Notebooks
The LCA for notebooks compares how cover structures, paper materials, printing methods, decorative finishes, and packaging choices affect the product’s cradle-to-gate footprint. By assessing key components such as cover materials, greyboard, inner paper, and packaging, it helps identify major impact contributors and explore lower-impact options, including responsibly sourced paper, recycled content, and simpler product constructions.
Bags
Bag assessments focus on the environmental impact of material production and manufacturing, including carbon emissions, water use, and land use. The LCA covers primary fabrics, linings, zippers, buckles, cutting, sewing, and decorative processes to identify the most significant impact stages. It also helps compare options such as recycled fabrics, alternative materials, and more efficient product constructions.
Writing Instruments
In writing instruments, the LCA evaluates how barrel materials, component structures, and surface finishing processes contribute to product carbon emissions. Materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, brass, and plastic are assessed together with processes including assembly, spray painting, electroplating, anodizing, and hot stamping. This helps identify carbon hotspots and compare lower-impact design and production alternatives.
Drinkware
Drinkware LCAs compare material and manufacturing pathways across vacuum flasks, plastic cups, glass cups, and ceramic cups. The assessment considers body and lid materials, accessories, forming or firing processes, surface finishing, assembly, and packaging. These insights help identify carbon-intensive stages and support more informed decisions on materials, processes, and product design.
